Tastes like the Greek: We stole our original tzatziki recipe from Chrístos after a few ouzos. The main ingredients: yogurt, cucumber, garlic, and olive oil. Stirred together, it goes well with meat, vegetables, or flatbread.
Tzatziki recipe – ingredients
For 4 servings:
- 1/2 organic cucumber
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 500 g Greek yogurt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
This is how it works step by step
Wash and clean the cucumber, coarsely grate and drain in a colander. Peel and finely chop garlic cloves or press through a garlic press.
First mix yogurt and olive oil in a bowl, then stir in cucumber and garlic. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Tzatziki recipes in great variations
We recommend Greek yogurt for the preparation of tzatziki. The fat content of 10% is significantly higher than that of whole milk yogurt, which makes the consistency of the tzatziki particularly creamy. If you don’t get it, you can replace it with a quark with 40% fat and whole milk yogurt in equal parts.
Vegan, refined with various kitchen herbs such as dill and mint, or even prepared with chickpeas and sesame: you can modify the basic tzatziki recipe in a great way. But you shouldn’t do without the garlic, which gives the dip its distinctive note.
That tastes good with homemade tzatziki
Many classics of Greek cuisine are twice as good with a big dollop of tzatziki! The creamy sauce is almost indispensable with meat dishes such as gyros, souvlaki, and bites. As a dip for grilling, it tastes great with steaks, grilled bread, coleslaw, and olives.
